 Scandalous Love?, July 23, 2015
Black Magic by Little Mix is a quirky pop/dance song that plays with the idea of attracting love through magic spells and/or supernatural means. The online music video shows the girls going from bumbling to self-confident with the help of the occult in order to attract love(hence the title black magic). I understand that this song is meant to be light-hearted and not taken too seriously. However, the only thing that I must diplomatically comment on is that there is a scene in the video where the girls are targeting a love rival by making the suitor change his treatment towards her by using magic to change how she is perceived through smell. However, the love rival may have put on a public front of being “snobby/snotty”, but she did not really do anything to harm any of the girls, which overlooks a negative karmic slant on using black magic on someone who did not really do you any real harm (even if for love). Yes, I understand that black magic (even if it involves just written words) is not necessary evil within itself and depends on intent (for instance a person using black magic to prevent and/or disable their enemy and/or enemies from doing them harm as long as they are not sending harmful/evil energy back to their enemies is not in the same league as someone wishing someone else harm/illwill out of jealousy and/or towards a person who may have caused hurt in the past but is no longer doing any intentional harm to others.). However, the way that magic is used in the online video in fairness to the group describes what they mean by black magic. However, the ending could have at least shown the love rival ending up with someone else who is more matched for her than her previous boyfriend. Other than that caveat, Black Magic by Little Mix is a catchy pop dance song.

Accepting and Changing Circumstances?, July 23, 2015
Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion is a movie centered around two Los Angeles area residents Michele Weinberger (Lisa Kudrow) and Romy White (Mira Sorvino). Both of them are in their late 20’s and become concerned about what they have done with their lives after Michele encounters a former classmate named Heather Mooney (Janeane Garofalo). Heather Mooney is doing well for herself on a financial level and influences Romy White to think about her own life after an encounter at work (Heather was one of Romy’s customers at a car dealership). In addition, Romy finds out about the upcoming high school reunion and decides (along with Michele) that they are going to make an attempt to go. However, as they look and reminisce on their lives via a yearbook, both women realize that they want to try to make some changes before the reunion in order to get back at how they feel they were perceived in high school. I admit that I’m a high school graduate of the class of 2000 and honestly did not attend my ten year high school reunion and I’m truthfully unsure about whether I would actually go to my 20 year high school reunion (regardless of how my life turns out, even though I’m proud of both where I came from and graduated high school from). However, this movie did inspire and remind me to begin now to choose carefully on how I want my life to unfold and change for the better within five years from now (by the summer of 2020 at the latest). The following are some of the other multiple actors/actresses associated with Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion; Camryn Manheim, Alan Cumming, Julia Campbell, Mia Cottet, Kristin Bauer, Elaine Hendrix, Vincent Ventresca, Justin Theroux, Jacob Vargas etc. There are multiple popular songs featured in the Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion film such as; I Want Candy by BowWow, She Blinded Me With Science by Oingo Boingo, Dance Hall Days by Wang Chung, Addicted To Love by Robert Palmer, Footloose by Kenny Loggins, Karma Chameleon by Boy George, Don’t Get Me Wrong by The Pretenders, Venus by Bananarama, and more songs featured in the movie.

Touches On Alternate/Parallel Realities, July 23, 2015
Due to my burgeoning interest in supernatural/celestial movies, I purchased this dvd of Donnie Darko; The Director’s Cut (Two-Disc Special Edition) on February 12, 2015. As many people know, this movie is about a Virginia teenager named Donnie Darko (Jake Gyllenhaal) who appears to be the only one who is able to see a spirit who has already died and crossed over to another world named Frank (James Duval). Donnie Darko is naturally at first leery of communicating with Frank but starts to trust him a little more after his life is saved from an aircraft crashing in his room. Both his parents Rose and Eddie Darko (played by Mary Mcdonnell and Holmes Osborne) and his siblings Elizabeth and Samantha Darko (played by Maggie Gyllenhaal and Daveigh Chase) care about Donnie Darko in their own way. However, even they are unsure on how to deal with what appears to be insane mind even though Donnie Darko’s unconventional communications with Frank allow him to glimpse into the future. Donnie Darko’s world brightens a bit when he falls in love with a teenage female named Gretchen Ross (played by Jena Malone) who is a newcomer to the Middlesex Virginia area. There are a number of other multiple famous people featured on this dvd; such as the late Patrick Swayze, Drew Barrymore, Seth Rogen, Ashley Tisdale etc.). However, the ending made me understand why my husband politely told me that it was a good thing that I had my Shania Twain concert dvd and a Strawberry Shortcake movie to watch for cheering me up afterwards. Even then, I would still watch Donnie Darko again (especially since I own the dvd), but I would definitely still have something uplifting to watch afterwards. The following are some of the extras associated with this Donnie Darko movie: dvd is divided up into two dvd discs and would also be of interest to aspiring writers/scriptwriters as well as movie buffs; disc one has audio commentary with writer/director Richard Kelly and Director Kevin Smith, disc two has Donnie Darko production diary (with optional commentary by director of photography Steven Poster), They Made Me Do It Too-The Cult of Donnie Darko, Storyboard to Screen Featurette, and Director’s Cut Theatrical Trailer. Last, but not least, there is the feature of The #1 Fan; A Darkomentary; Darryl Donaldson, a Donnie Darko movie fanatic, is shown meeting James Duval (actor who voiced Frank) and meeting various people affiliated with the movie at a San Diego California Comic Con. One more thing; there are various pop culture references in the Donnie Darko film such as; snippets to the song Head Over Heels by Tears For Fears, a homage to Tears For Fears with the feature of The Mad World song and a scene where Donnie Darko’s younger sister is part of dance troupe called Sparkle Motion (dancing to the song Notorious by Duran Duran) plus more pop culture references which would probably take up the length of another review.

Fun Concert Side of Shania Twain, July 23, 2015
I did purchase Shania Twain; Still The One Live From Las Vegas cd+dvd set from my job. However, I have been familiar with Shania Twain’s music since the 1990’s as a high school student. This is because my late adoptive mother frequently listened to country music and Shania Twain was one of the artists whose music I enjoyed whenever one of her songs came on the radio. Naturally, I remember some of those songs from that time period that are also featured on this concert dvd/cd set such as Honey I’m Home and Love Gets Me Everytime (the performance was in acoustic, but I recognize it from the radio version). Speaking of acoustic performances, there is a gladdening scene (against an artistic simulated campfire scene background backdrop) where Shania Twain calls up some of her fans from the audience for the acoustic performances of Come On over, Love Gets Me Everytime, Rock This Country, and Today Is Your Day. Before the performances, Shania Twain introduces her sister Carrie Ann and a mention of her late mother and how she nurtured her passion for singing. Additionally, some of the following Shania Twain fans are selected from the audience; Anna Lee-born and raised in Las Vegas, Pony from Black Ridge Albert Hamilton Canada, and Rich Melville from Grand Rapids Michigan. My current favorite performances from this concert dvd are I Ain’t No Quitter, That Don’t Impress Me Much, and You’re Still The One. However, there is something for many people in her 19 multiple concert performances and I like that there is a live concert 26 song cd included with this edition (that features some of the songs performed live at the Coliseum Center in Las Vegas).

Festival Preparation, July 23, 2015
Strawberry Shortcake The Berryfest Princess Movie follows Strawberry Shortcake and her community of friends as they get ready for the BerryFest festival. Both Strawberry Shortcake and Orange Blossom are aiming to be elected in order to play important roles in the parade. This movie appears to be aimed towards showing children (in a fun way) the elements of what goes into an election because of the conception around what goes into voting with roles of speechwriter and campaign manager being used in this movie. There are also positive lessons of coming together such as a scene in the forest where Strawberry Shortcake and other members of her community encounter a large beautiful pink bird that needs help in being able to fly. She and her cohorts are faced with the decision of whether or not to feed the bird the nourishing and colorful berry that is traditionally used in the Berry Big Parade and the Festival. The extras accompanying this dvd; A Berry Royal singalong centered around the idea of true friends and printable color pages that can be accessed via a computer cd drive. Then there is a dvd trailer for what looks like the following movie; Strawberry Shortcake The Glimmerberry Ball. From the perspective of an aspiring writer, the Strawberry Shortcake The Berryfest Princess movie gives a story plot angle of the strength in numbers element that can occur when a group of people come together for the greater good.

Queen Classics, July 23, 2015
Greatest Hits II by Queen is another music cd from my husband’s music collection. This edition opens with the song A Kind Of Magic. I Want It All, I Want To Break Free,The Miracle, and The Invisible Man (interesting references to the FBI and CIA in the song) are also among the multiple worthwhile songs on this classic rock music collection.

Otherworldly Music Soundtrack?, July 23, 2015
I eventually purchased this 12 song music set of The Guardians of the Galaxy; Awesome Mix Vol. 1 soundtrack due to being curious about the music featured in the movie as well as seeing this cd featured both at my job and online (fortunately, my husband and I had the chance to see the Guardians of the Galaxy when it hit the movie theaters last summer). The songs are from what sounds like the 70’s era, yet a multiple number of the songs are elevating to hear (my current personal favorites from this Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack are Hooked On A Feeling by Blue Swede, Spirit In The Sky by Norman Greenbaum, as well as tracks 6,10, and 11. However, there is something for many eclectic music lovers on this Guardians of the Galaxy music soundtrack set.

Ibiza Summer Party, July 23, 2015
Ibiza 2014; The Finest In Chillout & Lounge Music does have a shocking image of a stunning woman on this edition of the music collection that is labeled tracks from Ibiza (the controversial image is that of a woman with waist length long blonde hair enjoying herself on what looks to be the Ibiza beach with only three stars covering areas where a bikini or swimsuit would normally be). However, the chillout/lounge music featured from the 17 available tracks that mollify the soul and are pleasant to hear such as My Dreams, Pure Sensation, Good Feelings, Water Pearls, Rockin Rockers etc.
